Davy Engineering Repurposes Waste Cardboard with a Hyper Shredder 500 NET

Davy Engineering has reduced packaging waste and created a practical source of protective packaging by investing in a Hyper Shredder 500 NET cardboard shredding system supplied by Severn Packaging.

The machine converts used corrugated boxes—including heavy-duty triple-wall board—into flexible cushioning material that can be reused to wrap and protect products during distribution.

The Customer

Davy Engineering is a UK engineering business that regularly receives components and materials in corrugated cardboard packaging.

The operation was generating enough waste cardboard to fill two eight-cubic-yard bins twice each week. This was equivalent to up to 32 cubic yards of cardboard bin capacity every week, despite much of the material still having potential value as protective packaging.

The Challenge

The company wanted to reduce the amount of cardboard being discarded while improving the sustainability of its outgoing packaging.

Because many of the incoming boxes were manufactured from heavy-duty triple-wall corrugated board, any proposed cardboard shredder needed sufficient power and durability to process thick material reliably.
