A leading UK plumbing products manufacturer improved its protective packaging operation with a Cirrus packaging machine, a two-bin docking station and 400mm Multi-Pocket material supplied by Severn Packaging.

The new setup allows one machine to serve multiple packing benches while producing a hybrid wrapping and void-fill material. It has improved product protection, increased equipment reliability and supported the customer’s sustainability goals.

The Customer

The customer is a leading UK manufacturer and supplier of plumbing products. Its warehouse team packs a varied product range for distribution to trade and retail customers.

The Challenge

The previous inflatable protective packaging system contained wearable components that required regular attention and affected reliability. The warehouse also needed to supply several packing benches efficiently without installing a machine at every station.

The project focused on improving product protection, providing wrapping and void filling from one material, improving reliability, serving multiple benches and supporting sustainability goals.

The Severn Packaging Solution

Severn Packaging installed a Cirrus inflatable protective packaging machine with a docking station and two material collection bins.

400mm Multi-Pocket Hybrid Material

The Cirrus produces 400mm Multi-Pocket, a hybrid protective material used for wrapping, cushioning and filling empty space within cartons. Its pocket structure improved protection and helps restrict product movement during handling and distribution.

One Machine Serving Multiple Packing Benches

The docking station directs finished material into two separate collection bins. This allows one Cirrus machine to keep multiple packing benches supplied while making efficient use of equipment and workspace.

A More Reliable Machine Design

The Cirrus uses internal-sealing technology, removing the need for the conventional cutting blade and separate perforation-breaking mechanism found on many air-cushion systems. With fewer wearable items requiring attention, it has proved more dependable than the customer’s previous system.

Clear Sustainability Messaging

Multi-Pocket contains at least 30% recycled content. Its green appearance makes it easy to identify, while environmental messaging printed directly on the material clearly communicates its recycled-content credentials to customers.
